5 Inexpensive Dorm Decor Ideas

BY SAM DAMICO, BLOGGER

College is an exciting time in a person’s life. Being able to decorate your space is an awesome way to express yourself and create a home away from home. Here are some simple DIY decorations that you can make to spice up your dorm, apartment or house:

Twinkle Lights

Twinkle lights are a cute way to add some sparkle to your room. Sometimes the lighting in your dorm can be extremely harsh and twinkle lights are a great way to give your room a cozy vibe without straining your eyes. Painted Canvas

Painted canvases are great because you can get them for cheap at the Dollar Store or Walmart, and you do not have to be an artist to make it special! You can customize your canvas by writing quotes, painting flowers, practicing calligraphy; you name it. Moreover, if you are not artistic at all, you can purchase a variety of designs for cheap at Walmart. Illustration by Macey Elder

Fake Plants and Succulents

Fake plants are great to decorate with because they give off an earthy vibe, but you do not have to remember to water them! They can add a little greenery to your living space to make it feel more at home. Target has an excellent variety of artificial plants, including succulents, hanging plants and potted. Tapestries

Tapestries are a must-have if you have plain white walls. Most places do not allow college students to paint their walls and tapestries are a great loophole because they allow you to add a pop of color to your walls without damaging them. You can purchase tapestries at some places for as little as $20. Illustration by Macey Elder

Rugs

If the carpet, tile or linoleum floor in your dorm room grosses you out, there are plenty of places where you can buy area rugs to make your space feel more like your own. Rugs tie rooms together and make them feel like an actual person is living there, rather than looking like a showroom for incoming college kids to look at on a tour. Illustration by Macey Elder
