Do you hear that? Lighters are flickering and early 2000s club beats are filling our ears. Glitter is floating in the air and you are the sweatiest you have ever been. That can only mean one thing. “Brat.” Grab your finest and shortest mini skirts because Variant Magazine is hosting its very own “Brat” night at The Union Bar, located on 18 W. Union St., on September 11.

In early June, Charli xcx swept the nation by dropping her hot new album, “Brat.” Full of club beats and perfect party songs, everyone fell in love. This led to people unveiling their party animal chaos, grungy street style and messy club inspired makeup. “Brat” was simply the trend of the summer. Although you may be thinking “Brat” summer is coming to a close, go out with a bang and join the coolest and brattiest people on campus for one of the best nights of the year. With FREE admission, we will be bumping all those club classics and living out your “Brat” fantasy, so you do not want to miss out. We will be featuring “Brat-” themed cocktails that will be sure to fuel a night full of dancing. Swing by the bar and grab yourself a delicious Apple Sour Spritz or a Bratini to sip on. There will be a few other speciality cocktails, but you’ll just have to “Guess” and come see for yourself.

Your main focus for our “Brat” night should be your outfit. We are a fashion magazine after all, and will be taking our wardrobe very seriously. You do not want to miss out on a night where you can dress as sexy as you please. Charli xcx gains a lot of her “Brat” inspo from the y2k era. This includes plenty of low-rise pants and tiny tops, as well as Charli’s iconic, small, sporty sunglasses. Release your inner Britney Spears and Avril Lavigne, as those two early 2000s icons are as bratty as it gets.

I would also recommend stopping by one of Athens’ awesome thrift stores such as Upcycle or New To You, and digging up those old 2000s looks. Whether it's low waisted shorts or an insanely sparkly or patterned shirt, I can assure you, you will be brat. Bring out your old leopard print and kitten heels to make sure you stay bumpin’ that.

Would it even be a “Brat” event without green? Short answer: no. Lime green has become Charli XCX’s entire brand this summer. You simply cannot see something lime or neon green and not refer to it as “Brat.” A simple pop of classic bright green will send that subtle message you have been looking for. You could even head over to Michaels and grab a plain bright green t-shirt and write “brat” on it in the iconic font, or use another quintessential phrase or message to DIY an outfit of your own. One of the trendiest phrases and ideas going around currently is using the lyric “I’m so Julia” from the classic song “360”, and replacing Julia with your own name. The outfit options for this event are truly endless.

Brat is whatever you want it to be. Be true to your own style and define brat as you view it. This event will start at 8 p.m. on September 11 and admission is free. We really hope to see you there and in your best outfit! Join us for a night full of dancing and fun, and hang out with the coolest people on campus. See you then!
